Daihatsu has announced that it will no longer sell new cars in Europe from 2013, because it can no longer make a profit due to the strength of the Japanese yen.
For many months now there have been major supply problems, with dealers unable to get stocks of any Daihatsu models, such as the Sirion, Copen, Terios and Materia.
But while sales have stopped, existing Daihatsu owners will be looked after by the current dealer network.
On the official Daihatsu website the company has stated that: "There is no stock of new Daihatsu cars in the UK, and we do not expect to import any new cars"
The company goes on to say: "We wish to reassure Daihatsu owners that all after sales services will continue unaffected. Therefore, the supply of spare parts will continue, and warranty work and servicing will be carried out at our official UK dealer network".
We rang three dealers around the country to check the situation, with each one saying they had no problems with the supply of parts. Each was satisfied that it could continue to look after existing Daihatsu customers.
