This is the all-new Citroen DS High Rider concept, which is widely predicted to become the new Citroen DS4 when the production version is launched next year.

The High Rider is the second car in Citroen's upmarket 'DS' range, the first being the recently launched DS3 Mini rival.

The DS High Rider is an unusual crossover of coupe and off-roader, with a sleek, swoopy upper body and a muscular, jacked-up stance. Citroen hopes that this mix of styles will attract customers who might otherwise have bought cars as diverse as the VW Scirocco coupe and the Ford Kuga off-roader.

If the transition from DS Inside concept to DS3 production car is any indication, expect the DS4 to look almost identical to the DS High Rider. That means a bold, chrome-framed grille, panoramic windscreen and 19-inch alloy wheels. Whether the matt brown roof makes it into production remains to be seen.

It's also unclear whether or not the DS High Rider's diesel/electric hybrid powertrain will make it to showrooms. However its ability to run purely on electric power at low speeds would certainly add to its appeal.

Citroen is keeping its interior under wraps for now, but has confirmed that it will feature four full-sized seats.

Further details are to be announced at its debut at the Geneva motor show on March 2.
