The Chevrolet Camaro will go on sale in the UK from 2011, making it possible to buy a real slice of Americana.

The retro-styled V8-powered muscle car will only be sold here in top-spec trim, as it's expected to appeal to enthusiasts and collectors.

In this guise its 6.2-litre motor produces 426bhp, giving it a sub-five second 0-60mph time at the drag strip. Its top speed is limited to 155mph.

With a chassis featuring fully independent suspension, it's significantly more advanced than the traditional '60s muscle car which inspires its looks.

Its debut is being celebrated this weekend at the Goodwood Festival of Speed, with a Bumblebee themed car from the movie Transformers.

The latest Camaro has been on sale in the US since 2009, selling to more than 200,000 customers, but it has never been officially sold in the UK.

It's still possible to get hold of one before 2011, however, as American car specialists have been importing the Camaro to the UK since its launch.

There are currently seven very low mileage examples for sale on Auto Trader, with prices starting from just under £28k. Prices for earlier generations start from around £1,500.
