These are the first shots of Chevrolet's first ever hot hatch. The Aveo RS gives the best indication yet of how the next generation Aveo will look - and suggests there will be a hot hatch version when it hits the UK in 2011.
The hot hatch - which will debut at the Detroit Motor Show next week - will be powered by a 138 bhp1.4-litre Ecotec turbocharged engine. Mated to a six-speed manual gearbox, it's said to combine fuel-efficiency with hot-hatch performance.
The five-door Aveo RS concept is longer, wider and more spacious than the current car. Its aggressive styling incorporates the dual front grille from the recently launched Cruze and Spark models, whilst its show car features include pumped-up bumpers, a lowered stance, fog lamps and an abundance of brushed and polished aluminium details.
The rear gets a roof spoiler and centre-mounted chrome-tipped exhaust, whilst the low roofline and hidden rear door handles combine to create a sleek profile. Beefy 19-inch wheels complete the look.
The matt black interior is broken up by blue stitching, which runs across the instrument panel, doors, steering wheel, gear shift, leather seats and even the floor mats. The theme continues under the bonnet, with a special show car engine cover and ice-blue rimmed fluid caps.
If it goes into production, the hot hatch would be pitched against the Renault Twingo Renaultsport, Suzuki Swift Sport and the Vauxhall Corsa VXR.
