Car of the Year shortlist announced

The shortlist for the 2011 European Car of the Year has been revealed. The seven-car shortlist includes the all-electric Nissan Leaf, Alfa Romeo Giulietta and popular Vauxhall Meriva. The overall winner will be announced on November 29, 2010.

The shortlist was produced from a total of 41 candidates. To be eligible all contenders must be new vehicles available now or very soon in five or more European countries, and expected to sell at least 5,000 units every year.

The judging panel is made up of 59 senior motoring journalists from 23 countries across Europe.

• Citroen C3 and DS3
• Dacia Duster
• Ford C-Max and Grand C-Max
• Nissan Leaf
• Vauxhall Meriva
• Volvo S60 saloon and V60 estate
