An unique Mercedes SSK replica previously owned by Sammy Davis Junior and Bill Bailey is for sale on Auto Trader.

The extraordinary Mercedes SSK replica was built by Heritage in America for the Rat Pack star in 1989. Powered by a 5.7-litre Chevrolet V8 engine, it comes with air conditioning, power steering, central locking, wire wheels and a full leather interior.

The SSK was later imported into the UK and bought by stand-up stalwart Bill Bailey. The notorious comedian promptly modified the retro beauty, adding the striking silver-coloured side panelling.

Sammy Davis Junior became internationally famous for his performances on Broadway and in Las Vegas, as a recording artist, television and film star. He died in 1990 at the age of 64.

The original Mercedes-Benz SSK roadster was built between 1928 and 1932 in a limited run of just 40 units. With a top speed of 120mph, the SSK was by far the fastest car of its day - and numerous competitive successes made it one of the most highly regarded sports cars of its era.

Only four original models remain, and they're among the most sought after cars in the world. In 2004, a 1929 model was auctioned at Bonhams in Chichester for £4.2 million, making it one of the most expensive automobile ever sold.

The Mercedes SSK replica - which has done 25,000 miles and has been recently restored - is advertised for sale by CMC of Milton Keynes, for the bargain price of £55,000.
