The 2011 BMW 1 Series hatchback is being shown off to the public at the Goodwood Moving Motor Show today.
Like the outgoing model it features styling which sets it apart in the hatchback class and is sure to be a hot topic of conversation amongst the crowd.
The big news mechanically is its low emissions. The previous 1 Series was impressively thrifty - but the 116d will now emit less than 100g/km of CO2, making it free to tax. That's impressive for a city car, never mind a hatchback.
It will still be the only family hatchback with rear-wheel drive too, making it a popular choice with keen drivers. Every model hits 62mph in less than 10.3 seconds, with the 120d taking just 7.2 seconds and reaching 142mph.
Interior space has improved, with an extra 20mm of rear legroom for passengers in the back and a 30-litre bigger boot - now measuring 360-litres.
Sales start on September 17, with the range starting from £19,375 for the BMW 116i ES.
