Alfa Romeo has announced that the new Giulietta will be presented to the world at the Geneva Car Show in March, and available to buy from spring 2010.
The name harks back to the 1950s when the original Giulietta caught the imagination of a generation of car enthusiasts.
Alfa says the new model is "a sports car capable of expressing great agility on the most demanding routes and providing comfort on everyday roads".
Key features include its rigid-yet-light structure of aluminium and high-strength steel, sophisticated electronic devices such as VDC (Vehicle Dynamic Control) and DST (Dynamic Steering Torque) as standard, and a new interpretation of the classic Alfa grille.
Developed around a 'trilobe shape' the new Giulietta grille is set into the front bumper and suspended between the two air intakes.
In profile, the coupé-shaped side windows and concealed rear handles give the car a streamlined look, with striking LED light clusters at the rear.
The interior design explicitly recalls the style of the 8C Competizione supercar and the boot is a roomy 350 litres.
Four turbo engines will be available from launch: two petrol engines (a 120bhp 1.4TB and a 170bhp 1.4TB MultiAir) and two diesel engines (a 105bhp 1.6 JTDM and a 170bhp 2.0 JTDM). All are fitted with a standard "Start&Stop" system to reduce consumption and emissions.
The range will be completed by a tasty 235bhp 1750 TBi boasting an exclusive Quadrifoglio Verde configuration, to be launched later in 2010.
