Following on from its world debut at the Geneva motor show, full details of the new Alfa Romeo Giulietta have just been released.

With such talented rivals, it's no surprise the Giulietta promises to be the most technically advanced Alfa for decades. It features an all-new, lightweight structure as well as the latest-generation engines.

Five motors will be available from launch: two 1.4-litre, turbocharged petrol engines with either 118bhp or 168bhp; a 103bhp 1.6 JTDM diesel; a larger 2-litre diesel producing 168bhp; and the range-topping 232bhp 1750 TBi petrol.

All bar the 1750 TBi are equipped with stop and start technology to help reduce emissions and fuel consumption, while every model is fitted with a six-speed manual gearbox as standard. A twin-clutch semi-automatic system will be also be available.

Three trim levels - Progression, Distinctive and Quadrifoglio Verde - will be available. All will be fitted with Alfa's 'DNA' system which allows driver to choose between a range of vehicle chassis and throttle settings. VDC stability control featuring a simulated limited-slip differential called 'Q2' and a hill-hold feature are also standard.

All Giuliettas have climate control, six airbags and a CD/MP3 stereo. 'Distinctive' trim adds alloy wheels, cruise control and upgraded interior trim.

An optional 'Sport' pack adds larger alloy wheels, part-leather sports seats and aluminium interior inserts. The 'Premium' pack adds automatic bi-xenon headlights, Bluetooth and parking sensors.

Only the 1750 TBi is available in Quadrifoglio Verde trim, with lower suspension, 17- or 18-inch wheels and larger brakes with red callipers.

Exact UK prices are yet to be fixed but will start from around £16,000.
