In a clear statement of the confidence it has in its cars' reliability, Toyota has introduced a five-year warranty on all its models.

The cover is now standard whether you buy an £8,000 Aygo or £58,000 Land Cruiser and applies up to a maximum of 100,000 miles, providing the car is serviced on schedule at a Toyota centre for the full five years.

This step comes in the light of the company's highly-publicised recall programme earlier in the year which affected some models' accelerator pedals and the Prius' ABS software.

The new warranty matches Hyundai's five-year cover but not its unlimited mileage. Five years warranty with three years' free servicing is currently offered on the Chevrolet Aveo and Cruze. Kia is still the king of cover however, with a seven-year, 100,000-mile warranty.
