Ford has announced that an even hotter version of the Focus RS - badged 'Focus RS500' - will be built in limited numbers.

As the name suggests, just 500 RS500s will be built to mark the end of the current Focus' production run.

Its matt black body has been achieved by using a vinyl wrap developed by 3M, while gloss black wheels and red brake callipers ensure the RS500 looks even more dramatic than the standard car.

An upgraded 345bhp version of the familiar 2.5-litre, turbocharged, 5-cylinder engine, complete with a sports exhaust, means its performance is more dramatic too.

The 0-62mph time has dropped from the standard car's 5.9seconds to just 5.6, while top speed is up 3mph to 165mph.

Inside, red leather upholstery and a plaque with each car's production number mark out the RS500.

The RS500 badge has been used before for a version of the original Sierra Cosworth. These are now amongst the most sought-after fast Fords and the Focus RS500 will no doubt prove just as popular with fans of the marque.

There is no word on prices just yet but with the standard car starting at £27,575, the RS500 is expected to cost somewhere around £34,000.
