There are lots of reasons to love hot hatches. They're practical because they're based on common-or-garden hatchbacks. And they're usually affordable for the same reason. But the reason we love them so much is that they combine all of the above with the sort of driving fun that you'd usually expect from a purpose-built sports car.
So, to celebrate this most talented of breeds, we've selected some of our favourite hot hatches, both from today and the past, from the brand new Ford Focus RS to the original VW Golf GTI.
