As motoring costs spiral out of control, buyers are scrabbling to buy the most efficient models they possibly can. That's why car makers are churning out every more complicated cars that burn ever smaller amounts of fuel.

This year's Geneva motor show saw more hybrids and electric vehicles unveiled than ever before - one of the surprises of the event was a hybrid Lotus Evora.
